Good Energies Alliance Ireland applied and was voted in as a member of the Environmental Pillar in August 2014. It is a remarkable achievement that such a new organisation becomes a member of the highest-ranking environmental organisation in Ireland, with statutory functions and a consultative role on national policies. GEAI is proud to engage at this level.

What does the Environmental Pillar do?
  • It creates and promotes policies that advance sustainability.
  • It acts as an advocacy coalition, promoting the agreed joint policies of its members to government at national, regional, and local levels.
  • It provides a channel for government and the other social partners to engage with the environmental sector on both policy matters and the implementation of same.

Structure

The Environmental Pillar has a Steering Committee and the following Working Groups

  • Climate and Energy
  • Agriculture
  • Marine
  • Tree-Cover
  • Law, compliance and enforcement
  • Resource Efficiency

It also has a coordinator (Michael Ewing) and secretariat support.
