The GEAI team was invited to the official opening of the Faughary windfarm, near Manorhamilton (Co Leitrim). The team were shown the turbines inside and out, including the operations room in the middle of the turbine. “Everybody present was amazed at how quiet the turbines are on a beatiful but very windy day”, Aedín McLoughlin said.

March 17: GEAI EVS volunteers hit the streets for Saint Patrick’s Parade!

Yesterday was a very special day for our EVS volunteers. Irina, Olga and Santi, took part in the Saint Patrick’s Parade in Dublin! The three of them played tambourin with Samboeire, the Sligo samba band, along with Buí Bolg from Wexford.

Dressed up as ducks, Irina, Olga and Santi, accompanied by GEAI volunteer Del, paraded through the Dublin City main streets and were cheered by thousands of people (including the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins and Dublin City Mayor, Christy Burke). “It was an amazing experience, a day that I’m not going to forget in my whole life”, Santi said after the parade.

The Good Energies team were present at the Trinity College Dublin Green Week! Our director Aedín McLoughlin and our EVS volunteers Irina, Olga and Santi come down from Leitrim to talk about what are we doing and to promote the Erasmus+ program among the students.

The GEAI stand in the Jobs Fair attracted many students concerned about fracking and willing to help to create a different world. Our volunteers also have the opportunity to talk about the experience in Ireland with young people looking for alternatives after University, and many Léargas booklets about the program were given out.

We don’t have the opportunity to explain our work to future graduates every day. Thanks to the TCD Environmental Society for the invitation!
