[Press release] Response to donation of €20,000 to Manorhamilton Enterprise Forum

Good Energies Alliance Ireland (GEAI), urges all local communities and organisations in Leitrim and Fermanagh to stay calm and united in their opposition to fracking and to refuse any dialogue with Tamboran around funding, as accepting any money from them would compromise those organisations in the future.
“We were disappointed to discover the handover of money and broke the story immediately,” said Eddie Mitchell, GEAI member living near Manorhamilton. “The idea that a gas exploration company can come into our area and have control over who receives money while promoting a controversial gas project is frightening.”
Dr Aedín McLoughlin, GEAI director said, “The ‘grant’ of €20,000 given to Manorhamilton Enterprise Forum is so obviously the start of a “divide and conquer” strategy by the gas companies to weaken opposition to their proposal to take over and industrialise 100,000 acres of Leitrim and Fermanagh”. This money will only pay for the planning stage, it will not build the hotel. Where will the Forum get the rest of the money? This situation is exactly what we were warned about by international experts – the gas companies will stop at nothing to fracture the community as well as the land and will use money and empty promises to weaken the opposition to their project. It is vital that they do not succeed.”
