“El Congreso” urges the Spanish Government to close doors to Fracking

For the first time, the Industry Committee of the Spanish Parliament has urged its Government to ban fracking and suspend existing permits.

During the previous term, the Popular Party actively encouraged the use of this technique. Now the new majority in Congress calls the Government to cancel those legislative changes so fracking will be ban in Spain.

Still, the route of this initiative is uncertain but promising since the majority of parties and deputies are rejecting many of the energy policies that the Popular Party approved before.

The Canadian company, BNK is pending for permits to use fracking in 12 more exploration wells in the province of Burgos but the bill approved Tuesday in the Industry Committee also urges the Government to “provisionally suspend hydraulic fracturing surveys, including any project or research permit and establish a moratorium during this term that would include all permits or requests for authorization to conduct investigations. ”
